While We're Talking Vitamins

Just as I finished posting the following article about vitamins I received a new FLASH from MedPage about just how bad vitamin E and selenium are for you.  Of course the study showed no specific type of vitamin E or selenium, but the type does make a difference. In a similar vein the correct type and dose of vitamin E will prevent and reverse cardiovascular disease  and it can help lung disease by allowing more oxygen to cross in to the blood from the lungs, and it can prevent hair loss with chemotherapy. In a more balanced and fair presentation this popped up on my screen today - Health Forensics offers drug interaction and nutrient depletion reports The M.D.: So what's the risk of taking that medication? What to consider when reading drug companies' mandated lists of side effects, which can be hard to understand or overwhelming. By Valerie Ulene, Special to the Los Angeles Times October 10, 2011 It's getting harder for me to deny that I've reached middle age, a...

VITAMINS HAVE NEVER KILLED ANYONE

I am sure everyone is buzzing about the fallacious news stories from the last couple of days that are telling you taking vitamins is risky for your health.  Every time I hear reports on these studies I get mad.  I get more so when I hear the local ABC outlet news anchor say she does fair and balanced reporting. If her reporting was fair and balanced she would include the following information from Mitch Stargrove an ND I have known over some years: It is not advisable to make a causal statement of excess risk based on these observational data..." Without proper accounting of and informed choices for form, dose, combination, sequencing of nutrients this data says little of clinical consequence. Moreover, the fundamental premise of natural medicine is personalized and evolving care in concert with a healthcare professional trained and experienced in nutritional therapies. All contemplated supplement usage should be discussed with primary care providers, such as (licensed) naturo...

More for the Diabetes Diary

In 2011 an historic event took place between February and July.  Hundreds of people joined forces to walk from the west coast to Washington DC to raise awareness about diabetes.  This is the Longest Walk 3: Reversing Diabetes. Since this event we have published our commemorative volume, The Diabetes Diary.  This is a publication that includes daily entries about natural ways to prevent and reverse diabetes and to improve your health.  The Diabetes Diary - Now Available to purchase . Valuable natural health 100+ page reference resource for people with diabetes.  Now I read comments from a doctor that I believe belongs in this publication. from  Dr. Stefan Ripich In his view, people with diabetes are mostly influenced by their doctors. And most doctors don't teach their patients these fairly obvious lifestyle changes. There are five reasons for this that he cites: REASON #1: There’s no money in it for them. Health insurance providers don’t reimburse doctors...

PINKTOBER

Gambar
When I read last month that the Komen Foundation was pinkwashing a perfume I just thought, "What now?" According to Breast Cancer Action this perfume is a chemical soup of toxic substances that are linked with cancer. You can decide for your self, but I support raising a stink! Another taboo topic from Komen is BREAST CANCER PREVENTION. And another is BPA . And yet another is THERMOGRAPHY. Here's a comment from a breast cancer survivor about thermography. She commented on a report that breast cancer survivors need ongoing mammograms. More mammograms = more breast cancer. Where I live the rural hospital doctors do not want to learn anything new according to the administrator, so women in this area will not be able to have the best care. It is no different for men because I have been educating against PSA for at least a decade. I am a breast cancer survivor and I will NEVER have another mammogram. It did not find my tumor the first time(I did) so I do not have any con...
